E-waste: The fastest-growing waste stream of 2026.

Old phones, unused TVs, outdated laptops—most people toss them the moment one part fails. According to Global E-Waste Monitor 2024, a record 62 million tonnes (Mt) of e-waste was produced in 2022, an 82% increase since 2010. This waste contained valuable materials worth $91 billion; only $28 billion was recovered! E-waste piles up in landfills in underdeveloped countries where it poisons soil and rivers. Most of them contains toxic elements such as lead, mercury, cadmium.

Electronic waste is not an accident. Global consumer systems are designed so that replacement feels easier. Repair is discouraged because Corporations benefit when common people regularly discard old and buy NEW products instead of repairing, repurposing, or purchasing used ones.
